If you are going to dye your hair, do it carefully.

Dyeing your hair is perhaps one of the most radical changes to a person's appearance, but it can be very aggressive for your hair: it needs to be protected.

Hello again!
Have you ever thought about dyeing your hair ? Something that a few years ago was relegated to covering grey hair, is now a common practice as another way to define your own style, just like changing your jacket or wearing earrings. There is no problem with this, since each person looks better in some colours than others depending on various factors, such as skin colour, hair length, etc. However, there is a big difference with clothes or accessories: hair is a natural fibre that is part of our body, and that is why we must be very careful with how dyes or bleaching are applied .

What do dyes/peroxides do to hair and why do they damage it?

But why should you be careful? After all, it's not that different from dyeing any part of your skin, is it? In reality, dyeing or bleaching your hair is very different from dyeing any part of your skin : each hair is an extremely fine and delicate fibre, which has a certain elasticity and resistance, but which suffers particularly, due to its composition, from the interaction with the chemicals that make up the dye .

The hair fiber is made up of three layers: medulla, cortex and cuticle . The medulla is the central part that runs through the entire hair from beginning to end, and is much thinner than the other two parts. The cortex is the actual body of the hair and is therefore where all treatments that take care of the health of the hair fiber act , and especially dyes. The cuticle , the outer layer, is the hair's protective barrier , which is made up of scales, so everything that is intended to act on the hair cortex must first pass through the cuticle.
Most dyes, in order to have a long-lasting result on the hair, are not satisfied with applying the dye on the outer part (cuticle), since, otherwise, the dye would disappear with just a few washes: what they seek is to penetrate to the cortex through the outer scales of the hair and act on the inner body of the hair fiber. However, this process, applied both for coloring and bleaching , causes the powerful chemicals to weaken the cortex of the hair and make it weaker because they degrade the disulfide bridges that keep the hair stable and resistant. This can lead to, when several coloring or bleaching treatments accumulate on the same hair, for example, it becomes brittle and breaks, falling out. In other words: dye or oxygenated products are aggressive chemical treatments that, when accumulated, can cause hair to fall out .

Does this mean that if I have fine hair I can't dye/bleach it?

Not necessarily. Whether your hair is fine or thick has a relative influence on its resistance. What is important is the health of your hair in general, and especially the hair cortex. If the hair cortex is weak, whether due to an accumulation of chemical treatments or for any other reason, it is not advisable to use a dye in the conventional way; but if the cortex is healthy, regardless of the hair type, there should be no problem with dyeing. Checking the health of your hair, on the other hand, is simple: weak hair is brittle and breaks easily . Despite everything, it is best to consult a professional , such as your trusted stylist, for advice.

I have weak hair, but I want to dye/bleach it. Is there no other way?

Yes. At KV-1 we have developed a hair protection system that strengthens the internal bonds of the hair to increase its health and resistance, especially designed to prevent and restore damage caused by dyes in the cortex and hair cuticle and thus protect the integrity of hair subjected to chemical stress: the professional OnePlex system.

[caption id="attachment_26178" align="aligncenter" width="772"] To avoid problems arising from colouring we recommend Oneplex [/caption]

This is a three-step system for hairdressers and stylists to protect their clients' hair while applying the colouring or bleaching treatment. First, the Bond Multi-Booster is mixed with any type of dye to fortify the hair's existing health and prepare the way for the next product to act. This is called Clean & Maintenance : a shampoo that respects the dye and the previously applied mask that leaves the way ready for... The third and final step: the Bond Perfect Sealer , an intensive anti-breakage final treatment that strengthens the hair internally, protecting it against external aggressions.
By combining our Oneplex system, hair can be easily changed from one colour to another, or weak hair can be strengthened which otherwise could not be dyed or bleached without risk of breakage. Take a look at our website and recommend it to your stylist , if they don't already have one, as it is an essential product for any hair salon willing to dye or bleach hair . Thanks to it, you can relax and focus on choosing the colour that best matches your style, while keeping your hair healthy.
